History

In 1945, B. Gerald Cantor founded Cantor Fitzgerald. In 1999, Cantor’s interdealer fixed income electronic trading business is transferred to eSpeed.In December 1999, eSpeed becomes a publicly traded, and separately run business. In 2004,Cantor Fitzgerald separates out its voice brokerage business to create BGC Partners, L.P. in honor of B. Gerald Cantor. In 2008, BGC Partners merges with eSpeed, Inc. The new merged company is named BGC Partners, Inc. In 2013, BGC sells eSpeed, its on-the-run, US Treasury benchmark fully electronic trading platform to NASDAQ OMX for $1.234 billion in cash and NASDAQ OMX stock. In 20I5, BGC acquires GFI Group, a leading intermediary and provider of trading technologies and support services for the OTC and listed derivatives market.

Every year on September 11th, in conjunction with the Cantor Fitzgerald Relief Fund, we remember our 658 friends and colleagues and the 61 Eurobrokers employees who were tragically killed by distributing 100% of our global revenues to the Relief Fund and many other charities around the world.
