Founded in 1998 – we set out to provide the definitive way to score financial accounts to manage credit risk. 20 years later, the H-Score® predicts around 90% of corporate insolvencies in advance and is used widely across banking, insurance and corporate credit functions.
The next 20 years is about embracing the disruption that we brought to market in the 2000s: we are on a mission to revolutionise the traditional approach to commercial Credit Reference Scoring in the age of Open (and Big!) Data. We are positioning ourselves to be industry leaders, applying cutting-edge machine learning techniques to new, alternative data sources to deliver unprecedented accuracy for our clients. In our industry, model introspection and scoring transparency is not just important for our clients’ peace of mind, but is fast becoming a regulatory necessity, leading us to explore techniques at the forefront of AI research.
We care about solving problems for our clients using the best tech available. We expect our team to own the problem but not battle for hours on their own to solve it: we have brilliant individuals who shine even brighter when working together in a team. We don’t believe in labels, and our engineers are encouraged to get involved in all areas of the codebase, working in cross-functional teams to deliver on projects. The boundary between the data science and production development is very fluid, with data scientists and developers working closely to bring new products and technologies to market.
We don’t have a traditional career ladder to climb, but we encourage our people to be curious, to attend relevant courses and have a decent budget set aside for training each year. We do an annual salary benchmarking exercise to make sure we are paying market rate for the skills that our team have developed.
We are a small, close-knit team who like to have space to work independently, but know that support is just a slack message away! We collaborate with each other and our data science and commercial colleagues to solve real-life problems. Although we are geographically dispersed (London, France, Spain, Malaysia) we meet in the main London office at least every quarter and talk online everyday.
We would love entrepreneurial developers who aren’t afraid to roll up their sleeves and get involved and who share our values of respect, innovation and excellence to join us!
Scala is the team’s language of choice and our typical stack is composed of the Play Framework, AngularJS with Typescript, and postgres. We are also on a journey to moving our applications and workloads to the Google Cloud Platform, and thus we are continually experimenting with cloud native technologies such a Docker or Kubernetes, which might very well be part of our standard toolset by the time you join.
Over the years, Github has become our team’s main hub: that’s where we host our code, discuss issues, do our continuous integration and review our Pull Requests. No right or wrong, junior or senior here; we are all working towards producing quality and maintainable code. This really helps us with our own development and facilitates great communication and healthy debates within the team.
