    Founded by Cranfield University and three senior academics (Prof Stewart Williams, Dr Filomeno Martina, and Dr Jialuo Ding) in 2018, WAAM3D Limited is a technology-driven company providing comprehensive integrated technical solutions in the field of Wire-Arc Additive Manufacturing (WAAM). It is the commercial outlet Cranfield University has established to exploit its world-leading research in this field since 2006, with several grants, over 100 publications, and a team of 40 people working on its research programme; as well as some of the biggest metallic parts ever printed, with the financial support of companies like Airbus, BAE, Lockheed, TechnipFMC, Schlumberger, etc. WAAM3D’s Series A was completed in December 2019 with an investment from the Singaporean Accuron Technologies Ltd.

    Our vision is to be the world-leading company for WAAM processes, and to implement them in every industry and research organization around the world; our mission is to provide all the necessary tools and technical solutions needed for widespread adoption and exploitation of WAAM, through a coherent ecosystem that responds to the needs users have for the implementation of WAAM.

    Our key competences are processes, software tools, and specialist hardware for WAAM. We have translated these competences into an ambitious product portfolio, comprising:

    • Software (tool path planner, control and data processing, and material data keys);
    • Systems (turnkey solutions, and innovative hardware and sensors);
    • Services (certified wires, training for hardware, software and processes; first right part building; small batch manufacturing).

    These are needed to enable a successful implementation of WAAM within an industrial organization.
